I became a psychotherapist because I had a lot of my own healing work to do, and eventually it became apparent that this journey of healing, personal discovery and transformation was my way of life. I often marvel that I have the privilege of witnessing and facilitating others’ process of healing, change and growth as a vocation.

As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, I have had a career spanning over 30 years, with community based experience in mental health and drug treatment programs before moving into private practice. I received my Masters in Social Work from Columbia University and completed certificate training in psychoanalytic psychotherapy from Postgraduate Center for Mental Health. Additionally, I am a Certified Daring Way™ Facilitator (CDWF), an instructor in Coherent Breathing taught directly by Stephen Elliot, a Hypnotherapist trained by Melissa Tiers of The Center for Integrative Hypnosis, and have training in  Emotional Freedom Techniques through ACEP.

Meditation, prayer, journal writing, and many forms of dramatic and musical self expression have also been mainstays throughout my adult life, and I see art as yet another form of healing. Prior to the therapy journey I was a professional actor, and continue my personal creative process through singing and writing. I am the grateful mother of two wonderful children who are my greatest teachers.

on Creativity

I believe therapy is as much art as it is science. It’s the art of conversation, shared storytelling and meaning-making, bearing witness and holding space. It’s alive, improvisational, shifting, changing moment to moment. I’m always adapting techniques to the particular person—finessing what works best for this individual, and often times coming up with things right on the spot, that came organically out of our conversation. If I can be spontaneous and playful and even sometimes messy in my experimentations, hopefully it gives people permission to accept their own messiness, and even come to understand that the mess and the mistakes can give way to unexpected discoveries and gifts.
